Yea I have been a little lazy on updating the blog, sorry...
Vast Aire and Vordul Mega's 2001 futuristic masterpiece. Odd that an album that is over a decade old is more progressive than anything coming out now. This album put El-P's production on the map, and is possibly still his best work. Spaced out beats, abstract witty rhymes; The Cold Vein is a very one-of-a-kind project, which many have tried to imitate, but no one has come close to. Clever, gritty, hard-hitting; Cannibal Ox make you want to bob your head, light one up, harlem shake, and punch holes in the wall all at the same time. Even how they explain their name is dope: "Emcees who eat their own kind, with words that cut like razorblades = Cannibal Ox." The Cold Vein might be hard for some to grasp and get into, and those people should fuck off and listen to Nicki Minaj. Seriously though, just let the beat for "Raspberry Fields" kick in and tell me that you don't get that "I love hip hop" feeling. The combination of Vast's slow, thoughtful wordplay, Vordul's slick-talking quick flow, and El-P's "space oddessy through Brooklyn" beats are unmatched. My favorite tracks are: Stress Rap, Atom, and Iron Galaxy, but it is all good, I could listen to this album 80 times straight.
